A Few Words From Some Moms and Dads That Have Already Purchased The Chicco Keyfit 30 Infants Car Seat and Base

We have been using this seat for 8 weeks now with our son and I love it. It’s a nice, sturdy seat, and I don’t worry at all about his safety when he is in it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
The pros:
1. It was very easy to install in our 2005 Honda Pilot and generally just easy to use.
2. I have found it especially easy to get in and out of the car: the mechanism on the back to lift the seat out is very smooth and easy to use. It clicks into the base easily.
3. Adjusting the straps when the baby is in the seat is extremely easy.
4. The fabric wipes clean easily and the darker color is very nice.
5. The handle is comfortable.
6. The price is reasonable.
The only cons, all of which I can live with:
1. It is a very large seat. We have to move our passenger seat up to accommodate it, but you can still sit in the seat no problem. You have to open the rear door all the way to get it in and out of the car, which can be an issue in some parking lots.
2. As part of the above, you can’t fit it in the top of a grocery cart. I end up just putting it in the cart. I’ve done our weekly Costco run this way and while it was a little like a Tetris game putting the groceries in, it did work fine.
3. The pads on the straps that go up by the baby’s head are not removeable like they are on the Britax Marathon. That would make cleaning so much easier!
4. The Britax Marathon also has velcro that allows you to keep the straps to the side when you load the baby in. Having these would make it so much easier.
All in all, the cons are pretty minor when you consider the safety and easy of use of the seat.

Safety, ease of use, fit to the vehicle and being able to use the seat for babies through thirty pounds were my criteria for purchasing car seats as gifts for my grandchildren. The expectant parents concurred with my decision. The first arrived yesterday. My son-in-law, daughter and I examined it thoroughly on arrival and read the directions. Being able to easily use it without the base in a pinch was a pleasant discovery. The materials, design and construction appear to be superior to any others I examined. Before they departed my house it was securely installed in their car. I wish these had been around when my children were infants! I just ordered the second one for my other grandchild that is on the way. The Adventure color, light sage green, is pleasing to the eye and neutral.
Life is precious – protect
Ideal car seat for infant – but don’t expect to use it to 30 lbs. – By Amanda Flanagan
We were so happy we chose this car seat for our first one! We (and our baby, now 6 months) absolutely love it, it’s cozy, it’s portable (though not light, but really, none of them are), it’s a great color (we have the Fuego), it’s SUPER easy to install and use. We use it regularly with the Baby Trend Snap N’ Go – they are great together if you’re looking for an infant seat stroller that is very lightweight, small and portable (e.g. not an enormous stroller stroller system which we didn’t want).
One thing to note though, which as first-time parents we didn’t realize until just now. One of the main reasons we bought this seat is that it was good to 30 pounds, however, our daughter is going to outgrow it by height (30″ limit) WAY before she reaches 30 pounds, as many infants will. She is only 16 1/2 lbs now (~50th percentile), but she’s already 27 inches (over 90th percentile). So we’re probably looking to have to upgrade her to a convertible seat by the time she’s about 9 months old. (We’re going with Britax for the convertible – too bad Chicco doesn’t make a compatible convertible, we’d buy it in a second.)
That said, this certainly wouldn’t have changed my mind about purchasing this seat because we love it so much. However, if you’re making the purchase based on the extended weight limit, just know you may not even need it.

I love this car seat!! I bought an Italian brand car seat and hated it because my daughter had to sit too straight up in it causing my daughter’s head would fall forward from time to time. She loves this new car seat because she can lay back and see more. I am a first time mom and did not realize the importance of the reclining position in a car seat for baby to be comfortable. Well worth it’s weight in gold!

This is our second Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat to own. We still have our first one but since we’re having twins this time around we had to buy another car seat. And I didn’t even consider any other brand. The Chicco carseat is extremely easy to install and use. I love the latch system on the base and how simple it is to get the seat in and out of the car. I also love the matching stroller and how easy it is to snap in the carseat for use on the go. The only slight drawback is the chair is a bit heavy, especially as the kids approach the 30lb mark. But I consider that a minor setback to an overall wonderful chair.

We bought the Chicco travel system in “Romantic.” Though, I’m not sure why they call it the “Romantic,” since there’s nothing Romantic about this color scheme. Black and grey. Very neutral, hides dirt, matches my dark grey car interior. My son fits very comfortably in this car seat. The pull-string feature makes it very easy to tighten up or loosen the straps. The little covers on the straps keep them from digging into his neck. The fabric is very durable and wipes down easily. The base fits very securely with the LATCH system in my 2002 Honda CRV. It can also be installed quite firmly using seatbelts. The base includes little bubble levels so you know that it is installed properly. The seat clicks into the base unit very securely, but also is simple to remove by firmly squeezing the release on the back of the seat behind baby’s head. The seat can be used without the base, and secured into a car with the seatbelts; I’m not too thrilled with the overall security of this arrangement. My husband has used this function about three times when he had the baby and the carrier and needed to go somewhere while I was using the family car. We feel that it is secure enough for very low-speed trips on residential roads, but would not feel comfortable enough to travel on highways or interstates without the base. As a carrier, I don’t find it to be too heavy or cumbersome, even though I’m only 5’2″. The handle is comfortable for both myself and my tiny hands, and for my husband and his giant paws.
I’m sorry to say that my son is extremely tall for a 5-month old, and is already 30 inches in height. The guidelines for this seat say that it should last until the child is 30 pounds, or 30 inches tall. Technically, the 30 inches tall is a guideline, since the actual time when the child outgrows the seat is when there is less than 1″ of shell above his/her head. This ends up being an inch or so above the top of the Chicco label, depending on how the cover is fitted around the seat. We’ve got about a half inch to go before he maxes out on the height limit, even though he is nowhere near the weight limit (he’s 15 pounds). I wish they made seats for taller children so I could keep him in a seat I feel so safe with. Still, I consider it a very good investment, since he would have outgrown almost any non-convertible seat.
I gave it 4 stars because I found (like many other reviewers) that my son got very sweaty in this during the summer. Since I live in the Pacific Northwest and don’t have particularly hot summers, it wasn’t a big deal for us, but I would hate to be in a southern state dealing with a warm car seat. I wish my son could get more than 6 months out of it, but it isn’t Chicco’s fault that he’s tall. If the seat was any larger, other consumers would be knocking down the ratings for the seat being too bulky.
I have a few complaints about other reviewers’ complaints. First and foremost… THIS SEAT DOES NOT FIT ON TOP OF A SHOPPING CART BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. Chicco didn’t overlook anything, and the product isn’t flawed; it is safer and Chicco should be commended for trying to prevent parents from putting their child in danger for the sake of convenience. Second… yes, you do need to use two hands to press the buttons on either side of the carry-handle in order to change its position, and this also makes the product safer and should not be considered a product flaw. I have personally seen other infant carriers bump against something (in the case I saw, a chair), engage the button to change the carry-handle position, and the bucket tipped forward. Luckily, the carrier was holding an older, alert baby with good head control. If that had been an infant, his head would have been thrown forward. If the parents had not had the baby securely strapped in (yes, many parents keep the baby unstrapped in the carrier when not in the car) he could have tumbled out of the seat. Therefore, I don’t mind having to depress both buttons in order to unlock the position of the carry-handle.
